PET PORTRAITS

A series of abstract “vibe” portraits, an attempt to capture a pet ‘s energy and presence on the canvas. Portraits range from 8″ x 10″ to 14″ x 24″. The color palettes, brush strokes, and movement of these abstract portraits conspire to create a visual rhetoric for a being’s personality. In doing so, I express the very elements of our pets we find so amusing, lovable, and sincere.

Etherial blues and browns layered behind three sections of rich pink, which are applied in the impasto style. Soft greens applied with a blending brush add a gentleness to this pet's otherwise sharp behavior.

Impasto application, deep ochre, moss green, white, and red bring out this pet's playful nature. Long streams of yellow and white create through-lines in what is otherwise her chaotic energy.
