MEMORY IS SEDIMENTARY

A series of abstract oil paintings created beside my memoir that explore grief through unarchived memories of my now-deceased father. Each painting represents a singular moment and is titled after the object that inspired the painting’s color scheme.

THE VASE, OIL ON CANVAS, 53 X 44 IN, 2024

Walking Down the Stairs, oil on canvas, 4×6 in, 2024

Oil paint on 4.5" x 8.5" canvas. A yonic opening is plastered, impasto style, in the center of the canvas. Both lips are a deep forest green, and spit like a firepit on both sides with thick smears of paint. The painting's background is lightest where the yonic shape is, on the left fading to deep purple and on the right fading to dark green. Some fleeting yellow ochre lines pepper the left side of the yonic shape like hairs.

Driving to Bend, oil on canvas, 4×6 in, 2024

Oil paint on 4.5" x 8.5" canvas. Teal, lilac purple verging on blue, orange, and green converge on the left-hand side of the canvas. These colors are applied liberally and thickly and with softness as the eye moves right.

The Trashcan, oil on canvas, 4×6 in, 2024

Oil paint on 4.5" x 8.5" canvas. Gray, green, dark blue, and white produce a maelstrom-like effect on the right side of the canvas, moving into dark greys and whites as the eye moves left. The red underpainting shines throughout, giving the work a warm ambiance.
